NEW YORK, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- For many private owners of vacation rental properties, the Internet is a dream come true. Gone are the days of placing expensive ads in local newspapers hoping to find vacation renters.
Gone too are the summers and weekends of little or no extra income while their vacation properties stand vacant. The Web has changed all that, it seems, with its global reach and 24/7 availability.
And increasingly, private vacation property owners are finding ways to
make the online world work for them. Some create their own Web sites, with
varying degrees of success. Others turn to third-party Web sites like
Vacations-Abroad.com (http://www.vacations-abroad.com), which lists private
vacation rentals throughout the Americas, Europe and the Caribbean, to do the
marketing for them.
"This rental season has been great," said Tommy Sanford, who lists his
Gulf Shores, Alabama condominium on Vacations-Abroad.com. "At least half of
our renters have been from the site."
Sanford's is not an isolated case. According to Linda Jenkins, owner of
Vacations-Abroad.com and its sister site Travels-Abroad.com
(http://www.travels-abroad.com), several of her clients are making $20,000 a
year by listing their vacation rentals on Vacations-Abroad.com. Many others
are able to make capital improvements to their properties with the cost
savings from advertising.
Jenkins attributes her clients' low vacancy rates to the Internet's
worldwide audience and an understanding of the medium. "Because we
aggressively market Vacations-Abroad.com, and because we have taken the steps
to ensure strong search engine rankings, our clients' properties are being
seen by travelers around the world," Jenkins explained.
Statistics from Vacations-Abroad.com averages 200,000+ page views monthly
and of those 60,000 are unique visitors.
"I have to admit that at first I was skeptical about the effectiveness of
Internet marketing," said Ashok Hargunani, owner of a condominium on Marco
Island, Florida. "But [Vacations-Abroad.com has succeeded in changing that
notion."
